MATCHMOVE

Matchmove, also known as camera tracking or motion tracking, is a technique used in visual effects and computer graphics to create realistic camera movement in a 3D environment. It involves analyzing the motion in live-action footage and replicating that motion in a 3D space, so that computer-generated elements can be seamlessly integrated into the live-action footage.
  • Camera/Object/2D Tracking: The movement of the camera in the live-action footage is tracked using specialized software. The software analyzes the movement of identifiable points in the footage, such as tracking markers, and creates a digital representation of the camera's movement.
  • Calibration: The tracked camera movement is calibrated to match the scale and orientation of the 3D environment.
  • Reconstruction: The tracked camera movement is used to reconstruct the 3D environment in which computer-generated elements will be placed.
  • Integration: Computer-generated elements, such as 3D characters, objects, or environments, are then placed into the 3D environment and animated to match the movement of the live-action footage.

COMPOSITING

Compositing is the process of combining multiple visual elements, such as live-action footage, computer-generated imagery (CGI), and visual effects, into a single image or sequence. It involves layering and manipulating different elements to create a final image that appears seamless and believable. Compositing services includes
  • Colour Correction: The colour of the elements is adjusted to match each other, creating a cohesive final image.
  • Crowd Duplication: Filming or capturing footage of the person or object that will be duplicated. Creating a matte or mask that isolates the person or object from the background. Adjusting the size, position, and orientation of each duplicate element to create a more natural and varied crowd. Applying any necessary lighting and colour correction to ensure that the duplicated elements blend seamlessly with the original footage and rendering the final composite.
  • Monitor/Mobile Screen Comp: Overlaying a high-resolution version of the video or film on top, Adjusting the position, size, and aspect ratio of the video or film to match the display device, and adding any additional elements, such as graphics or text, to the composite. The monitor screen comp allows editors and producers to preview the final product on a typical display device, ensuring that it will look as intended. It also allows for any necessary adjustments to be made before the final output is created.
  • Set Extension: Filming or capturing footage of the physical set. Creating a matte or mask that isolates the area of the set that will be extended. Matching the lighting, shadows, and other visual elements of the 3D model to the original footage, in order to create a seamless integration and rendering the final composite.

PAINT-PREP

Paint-prep refers to the process of preparing footage for digital compositing or visual effects work, specifically for areas that will require painting or touch-up work. Paint-prep is an important part of the post-production process, as it ensures that the final product is seamless and visually consistent. It allows for the removal of distracting or unwanted elements, and the creation of a consistent visual style throughout the film or television show. Paint-Prep services includes as follows.
  • Wire Removals
  • Rig Removals
  • Camera/Reflection Removals
  • Crew/Object Removals
  • Clean plate Creation
  • Dust/Scratch Removals

ROTOSCOPE

Rotoscope is used to create a matte or mask that isolates a subject or object from the background. It involves tracing over the edges of an object in a series of frames, in order to create a matte or mask that can be used for compositing or other visual effects work. Services included in Rotoscope are as below.
  • VFX Roto
  • Stereo Roto
  • Green/Blue Keying
  • Matte Extraction
